Mareeba Wetlands The Mareeba Tropical Savanna and Wetland Reserve covers an area of over 2,000 hectares and has 150 hectares of lagoons. It provides a sanctuary in the savanna for outback wildlife and a visitor experience in complete contrast with the reef and rainforest habitats. The Reserve is operated by the Mareeba Wetland Foundation, a not for profit conservation organisation.

Hinchinbrook Island A day trip does not do this place justice. The 3 day walk on the island would be one of the best walks in Australia. Quite easy, but needs to be booked as only 40 people permitted on island at any one time. Each person is issued with a 'poo trowell' to limit environmental impact.
