White Sapote
(Casirimoa edulis)

White Sapote - Exotic Tropical Fruit from Cape Tribulation

The fruit is round and has a thin green skin with a rich sweet flesh tasting like vanilla custard. Comes from Mexico.

Soil
Characteristics
Wide range of soil types provided drainage is good
Climate Requirements Hardy sub-tropical tree capable of surviving dry periods as well as frosts.

Culture

Young trees need protection from frosts. Light feeding frequently.
Harvesting Many varieties spread the availability of fruit. Picked when green colour fades, ripens in 3 - 7 days to soft.
Length of time
until first crop
Three years. Grafting is recommended.
Marketing Notes High level of acceptability at the fruit tastings. Can be kept chilled for several days to a week. Very thin skin is easily marked during transport.

 

Food Preparation

Usually eaten fresh, but can be mixed for milk shakes and sherbets.
